The deal estimates Mercedes at £4.6 billion – a record for an F1 team – after McLaren was appraised at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to corporate structure last September. Wolff, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, plans to divest a shareholding approximately five percent. Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team principal and CEO if the sale goes through. Shareholder Breakdown Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and industrial group Ineos Group, who both hold one-third of the company. An official representative stated: "We will be making no comment on this. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unaltered, and all three partners are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in F1." Financial Growth This arrangement signifies a significant increase in worth of Mercedes F1 since Ineos bought its stake for £208 million in 2022. The rise reflects the expansion in market values of F1 teams recently as a consequence of the increasing appeal of the sport around the world. This was also seen in the box-office performance of the Formula 1 film starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which debuted in summer 2023 and earned more than $630m (£458m) at the box office. It is Pitt's most successful film and the highest-earning sports movie to date. Current Standings The Mercedes team are runner-up in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren Racing, with three races left in the current championship. Their lead driver George Russell has secured victory in two of the 21 races so far and is fourth in the drivers' championship behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The team won a unprecedented eight consecutive team titles and seven driver championships, six for Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
