Wythenshawe Vets Over-35s are based in southern the city and play in the Cheshire Vets League Premier Division.

"Those people who turn up and watch are happy and to give a day if they watch us playing there and to ask us questions - it's more like the pleasure of us getting somewhere we can enjoy football, with structure of course."

So great is the bench strength at the club, he had his first game at full-back.

"It's a little different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"The running is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

'Surreal Experience

In addition to Cisse's six goals on his first game, Ireland has netted eight in 3 appearances for the side, while Boyd scored five on his debut appearance and Lescott, a defender by position, notched a triple in one match as a striker.

"The news was going round like a rumor they had these former top-flight stars," said Barrow.

"I think I was a little awestruck playing against him to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's got over 60 England caps.

"Our side competed well for a good 20 mins but then we had a player sent off and it was tough.

"We literally have not stopped talking about it - I was phoning my mother and sibling on the way home.

"They were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a bunch of normal guys.

"Now we can't wait for the return match."
